Fur Hat

My young daughter with her favorite fur hat.
I really like the way this one turned out: it has a certain modernist element, an element of vivid abstraction, which came of itself, without forcing it out.
The energy of this patch really inspired me to dance along with it with my brush—really love where it took me.
Again given our chicken trio, I keep coming back to this theme; it makes me think of the pure potential from which life springs.
Camille was just 11 years old when I did this piece. She was holding Georga, one of our late chickens—her favorite.
We have two orange trees in our backyard and they very generous this season!
There is something dreamy that drew me to this arrangement, a longing for things to come home.
Bringing drapery into the composition really added a dynamic element to this piece; it’s one of my favorites.
